Blurb (as on Goodreads):
In Croswald, the only thing more powerful than dark magic is one secret…
For sixteen years Ivy Lovely has been hidden behind an enchanted boundary that separates the mundane from the magical. When Ivy crosses the border, her powers awaken. Curiosity leads her crashing through a series of adventures at the Halls of Ivy, a school where students learn to master their magical blood and the power of Croswald’s mysterious gems. When Ivy’s magic––and her life––is threatened by the Dark Queen, she scrambles to unearth her history and save Croswald before the truth is swept away forever.
The Crowns of Croswald is about a town called Croswald and like any other magical place, of full of deceit and evil magic. But the Queen there has an upper hand and people have fallen into a routine, unaware that they may have a savior.
Ivy Lovely is a scaldrony maid (you’ll meet a few wonderful beasts and other magical stuff as the story progresses). She has a miserable life, until the day she finds an invitation to the Halls of Ivy- an institution for magic where royals and scrivenists (writers, sort of) learn to tame and improve their magic.
The first thing that attracted me towards this book was the mysteries fairy-like creatures in an absolutely stunning cover of the book. Well, they are called hairies and they glow according to the light around, or sometimes their mood.
The characters are very mystical, and so is the story. I was fascinated by the author’s imaginary world and the events that occur throughout the story.
The writing is quite simple. which compliments all the crazy stuff that keeps happening, which btw gave me enough time to grasp everything rather than worrying about hefty words. The world of Croswald is a completely different fantasy land and hardly saw the twists coming.
Certain parts felt boring to me, whereas a few events should have been written more elaborately. But the climax erases a lot of complaints and as the story will stretch itself into another book, I am very excited about the sequel.

Its a term the author created. Scaldrons are these huge pots where the royals cook food using dragons and the fir they create from their mouth. And Scaldrony maid is the one responsible for the cooking.
