Hey guys,
Indian authors are currently doing a good job in bringing us diverse literature and I have read a couple of them this year. Here is a compilation of authors and books I would like you to read. Let’s hop right in.
Crime and Thriller
S. Hussain Zaidi: The author of multiple books, which have been turned into Bollywood movies, Zaidi brings the drama and the thrill of the chase in his words. If you are a fan of drama, but all happening as a part of a thriller, his books will certainly entertain you through and through

Bhaskar Chattopadhyay: Murder mystery with a healthy dose of scenic beauty, Bhaskar Chattopadhyay engages you not only with the characters but with the surroundings as well.
Suggested Read: The Disappearance of Sally Sequiera
Translated Works
K. R. Meera: Her books are perfect for people who love an emotional, heart wrenching short read that portrays the raw and vulnerable nature of the characters. Her book is also full of quoted you might wanna write down in your journal.
Suggested Read: The Poison of Love
Vivek Shanbhag: Everyday things done right, Shanbhag is an expert storyteller. He holds the power to pull you into the whirlwind of an otherwise everyday story.
Suggested Read: Ghacchar Ghocchar
Literary Fiction
Aruna Chakravarty: Her portrayal of the Tagore household is what took me by surprise. Her writing holds authenticity and she has a way with words. Her stories are deeply engaging and have been loved by all.

Meena Kandasamy: A writer capable of breaking your heart and bringing you to tears with her plot line. Her writing style is captivating and she knows how to play around with her plot and her characters.
Suggested Read: When I Hit You, or A Portrait of the Writer as a Young Wife
Mythology
Devdutt Pattanaik: If you like your Mythology supported with facts, Pattanaik is your guy. His books are the end product of extensive research and you will find the references at the end. While his book doesn’t have much fiction in it, the stories are equally enjoyable and full of various emotions and lessons.
Suggested Read: Jaya
Ashok K. Banker: With an imagination that could take you by surprise, Ashok Banker brings out the crazy from the ordinary. His writing style is equally intriguing, his stories certainly a rollercoaster ride.

Poetry
Sharanya Mannivannan: Her poetry reminds me of traditional poetry with long verses and meanings deeper than the ocean. Poetry that can be interpreted in multiple ways, poetry that feeds your soul.
Suggested Read: The Alter of the Only World
Fantasy/Horror/Supernatural
Vinaya Bhagat: The supernatural elements need a special touch, especially the Indian version, where the line between superstition and reality is a blur. Vinaya Bhagat writes an engaging story which is thrilling and totally believable.
Suggested Read: The Trickster
That’s all for today’s post. I will keep updating the list as and when I discover more. I hope you liked the compilation. Let me know which book you will pick first.
