Hey guys,
How are you’ll doing? I have never compiled quotes before on my blog. This is a try to put my favorite quotes from the book.
The Handmaid’s Tale has touched my heart in so many ways. I have compiled a list of quotes that I absolutely loved from this dystopian fiction. These quotes make you ponder over life and what it puts people through.
My review of the book can be found here 🙂
So let’s get started……
The Handmaid’s Tale
Author: Margaret Atwood
“Don’t let the bastards grind you down.”“But who can remember pain, once it’s over? All that remains of it is a shadow, not in the mind even, in the flesh. Pain marks you, but too deep to see. Out of sight, out of mind.”
“We were the people who were not in the papers. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. It gave us more freedom.
We lived in the gaps between the stories.”
“A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere, as long as it stays inside the maze.”
“The moment of betrayal is the worst, the moment when you know beyond any doubt that you’ve been betrayed: that some other human being has wished you that much evil”
“I am not your justification for existence.”
“I want to be held and told my name. I want to be valued, in ways that I am not; I want to be more than valuable. I repeat my former name; remind myself of what I once could do, how others saw me. I want to steal something.”
“I want everything back, the way it was. But there is no point to it, this wanting.”
“Every night when I go to bed I think, In the morning I will wake up in my own house and things will be back the way they were.
It hasn’t happened this morning, either.”
“I would like to believe this is a story I’m telling. I need to believe it. I must believe it. Those who can believe that such stories are only stories have a better chance. If it’s a story I’m telling, then I have control over the ending. Then there will be an ending, to the story, and real life will come after it. I can pick up where I left off.”
Do let me know which one’s your favorite? Have you read the book? Leave a comment 🙂
I liked only this part…”I want everything back the way it was”….not the rest
